About the event

Sabine Simon studied with Annerose Schmidt at the “Hanns Eisler” Academy of Music in Berlin, with György Sebők at Indiana University, Bloomington, and with Hans Leygraf at the Mozarteum Salzburg.

Early on she won prizes at national and international competitions such as the Bach Competition in Leipzig, the Chopin Competition in Darmstadt and the Edvard Grieg Competition in Oslo. At the age of 16 she made her debut with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra under Claus-Peter Flor. Concerts followed with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Orchestra and the Salzburg Mozart Soloists, under conductors such as Antoni Wit, Dennis Russell Davies, Jac van Steen and Jörg-Peter Weigle. Her solo and chamber music activities have taken her to almost all European countries, through North and South America and to Japan. She has appeared at important festivals including the Schwetzingen Festival, the Salzburg Mozart Week, “Pianistii” Tallinn, “blanco y negro” in Mexico City, “Klangspuren” Schwaz and “Quantensprünge” Karlsruhe. In 2004 she made her debut at the Berlin Philharmonie.

Sabine Simon teaches piano and piano methodology at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt and leads a piano class at the Rhineland-Palatinate State Music Grammar School in Montabaur. She serves on juries of national and international piano competitions and regularly gives piano and chamber music courses, among others at the Summer Academy of Indiana University Bloomington and at Duke University, Durham, USA.
