    Born in 1810 at Żelazowa Wola, Fryderyk Chopin is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era. His entire output centres on the piano — and changed the musical world forever.

    Birth of Chopin's elder sister Ludwika. Chopin's parents — Mikołaj (Nicolas) Chopin, who had emigrated from Lorraine to Poland in 1787, and his Polish wife Justyna, née Krzyżanowska — had met in 1802 while both in service on the Skłodowski estate at Żelazowa Wola, and married in 1806.

    Following the Third Partition of Poland in 1795, the invasion of French troops leads Napoleon I to establish the Duchy of Warsaw.
