The Polish pianist Mateusz Tomica has won numerous awards at renowned piano competitions both in Poland and abroad. His recent successes include the top prize and the mazurka prize at the XII International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Darmstadt in 2022. He was also a finalist at the II International Karol Szymanowski Music Competition in Katowice (2023) and at the National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2020).
Born in Katowice in 1997, he studied at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (class of Jan Jiracek von Arnim), at the Bern University of the Arts (Tomasz Herbut) and currently at the Zurich University of the Arts with Prof. Konstantin Scherbakov.
Mateusz Tomica has given concerts in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, the UAE, Austria and Switzerland. As a soloist he has appeared with the Warsaw National Philharmonic, the Polish Radio Orchestra and the South West German Philharmonic Konstanz, among others. Since August 2024 he has led his own piano class at the Bern Conservatory.
