    About the event

Paula Riós is regarded as an interpreter with a strong personality, refined technique and originality in her projects. With appearances in Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany and Argentina she is developing an intensive career as a soloist. To date she has made recordings for Radio Nacional de España, TVE, Radio Suisse Romande, TVG, IB2 and RG.

Her current field of research is the work of Fryderyk Chopin and early Romanticism. Her first CD “Chopin en Mallorca” was recorded for the Chopin Museum in Mallorca and presented at the Chopin Society in London on a piano played by Chopin himself. She regularly takes part in historical performance projects with original instruments and has appeared with the soloists of the New York City Ballet with music by Chopin.

Paula Riós also researches intensively the repertoire of her homeland and of the Spanish avant-garde. She is frequently invited to give lectures and to take part in Spanish dance projects. Her second CD “Viento de Plata” (Columna Música) is devoted to the circle of composers around Federico García Lorca, Manuel de Falla and Luis Buñuel.

Paula Riós studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo, where she graduated in piano with distinction. She then continued her training at the Basel Academy of Music with László Gyimesi and Rudolf Buchbinder, receiving the concert diploma and completing her studies as a soloist. She also studied chamber music with Gérard Wyss, Ivan Monighetti and Rainer Schmidt, and conducting with Hans-Martin Linde at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

She completed her studies with Claudio Martínez-Mehner and took part in masterclasses with Elisabeth Leonskaja, Alicia de Larrocha, Piotr Anderszewski, Rita Wagner, Alexei Lubimov, Andrzej Jasiński, Larissa Dedova, Dmitri Bashkirov, Elisso Virsaladze and Geoffrey Lancaster, among others. She has been awarded several first prizes and important scholarships.

Her latest CD “Cantar con los dedos” (Calanda Music), presented this year in Paris and London, is devoted to the young Chopin and the circle of virtuoso pianists around him in Paris.
