Piano Recital with Khrystyna Mykhailichenko

About the event

Seventeen-year-old Khrystyna Mykhailichenko is one of Ukraine's most promising young musicians and can already look back on a multitude of competition successes. In April 2022 she was to perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the National Philharmonic in Kyiv – a performance that had to be cancelled because of the Russian invasion of her country.

Born in Simferopol/Crimea in 2005, Khrystyna received her first piano lessons at the age of four. From the age of five she successfully took part in several national competitions in Crimea. For five years she studied at the Rachmaninov State School of Music in the class of Svetlana Novitskaya, and made her first appearance with orchestra at the age of eight in Simferopol.

In 2014, after the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, the family moved to Kyiv, where Khrystyna passed the entrance examination for the State Music Lyceum. In 2014/15 she won the International Piano Competition in The Hague, followed by a tour of France and Belgium (Salle Cortot Paris, BOZAR Brussels, the conservatories of Antwerp and Bruges).

In March 2016 Prof. Alexei Grynyuk took over her further training – his verdict: “Khrystyna's talent is deeper and more powerful than any other I have been able to work with so far.” First prizes and grand prix followed at “Chords of Khortytsia” (Ukraine), “Merci Maestro” Brussels and the Vladimir Horowitz Competition in Kyiv, along with masterclasses with Menahem Pressler, Ivry Gitlis, Jérôme Pernoo, Leonard Elschenbroich, Alexandra Soumm, Polina Leschenko and Jean-Bernard Pommier.

By the age of eleven she had already given more than 40 performances as a soloist with symphony orchestras and in solo recitals on world-class stages (New York, Washington, Miami, Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Vienna, Bremen, Kraków, Istanbul, Bursa, Bayreuth). After the Russian invasion in 2022 the family moved first to Poland, then to Dresden and to the United Kingdom. In September she begins piano studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
