Piano Recital Eric Lu (USA)

A true poet at the piano

    Klavierabend Eric Lu (USA)

    About the event

Celebrated by press and public alike for his sensitivity and distinctive musical voice, the American Eric Lu, only just 19 years old, is already a sought-after soloist on international concert stages. “The tone was luminous, the articulation gripping and exciting, every note fully articulated, legato and bel canto passages moving. A true poet at the piano, who managed to create an extremely intimate atmosphere on the Steinway grand in this enormous hall.” (Michael Moran)

Eric Lu began playing the piano at the age of six with Dorothy Shi. He then attended the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, where he received lessons from Alexander Korsantia and A. Ramon Rivera. Since 2013 he has been a student of Jonathan Biss and Robert McDonald at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, while also studying with Dang Thai Son. Even as a young teenager Eric Lu celebrated significant international successes, including at the International Competition in Ettlingen (2010, first prize), the Minnesota International e-Piano Junior Competition (2013, first prize and Schubert special prize) and the Moscow International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists (2014, first prize). At seventeen he won the US National Chopin Piano Competition in Miami (2015, first prize and concerto prize) and later that same year became a prizewinner at the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (4th prize).

The 2015–16 season saw Eric Lu perform at, among other venues, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Beijing Concert Hall, at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and in Duszniki-Zdrój in Poland. The orchestras with which he has already collaborated successfully include the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra and the Chopin Foundation Orchestra.
