About the event
The pianist Sabine Simon and the cellist Romain Garioud present works for cello and piano by Franz Schubert (the “Arpeggione” Sonata) and Felix Mendelssohn (Cello Sonata in D major op. 58). The attractive programme is complemented by solo piano works by Chopin and Mendelssohn.
Sabine Simon, born in Berlin, studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music Berlin with Annerose Schmidt and at Indiana University with György Sebök, Menahem Pressler and Janos Starker. She made her debut at the age of 16 with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. In September 2024 she was appointed professor at the Berlin University of the Arts.
Romain Garioud is a prize-winner of, among others, the Tchaikovsky Competition Moscow (2002), the Rostropovich Competition Paris (2001) and the Valentino Bucchi Competition Rome (1st Prize 2005). Since 2018 he has taught at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt and at the Berlin Academy of Music. He plays an exceptional cello by Nicolai Gagliano, 1760.
