About the event
A festive chamber concert in Kranichstein brings together three outstanding artists for one evening: Sabine Simon and Konstantin Zvyagin on piano, and Romain Garioud on cello. The programme features works by Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Prokofiev – from enchanted fairy-tale sounds to grand Romantic and modern chamber music.
Today's concert is a joint event of the Chopin Society in the Federal Republic of Germany e.V. and the European Partnership Association.
Biographies
Sabine Simon— Piano
Sabine Simon studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin under Annerose Schmidt, at Indiana University in Bloomington (USA) under György Sebők, Menahem Pressler and Janos Starker, at the Salzburg Mozarteum under Hans Leygraf, and as a scholarship holder of the International Academy of the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt. She made her debut with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra at the age of just 16. Numerous national and international piano recitals and concerts followed, including with the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Polish Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra Lodz, and the Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes in Mexico. Alongside appearances in many European countries, she performed in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Japan. As a prize-winner of national and international piano competitions – including first prizes at the National Bach Competition Leipzig and the Bechstein Competition “Piano in Concert” – her interests lie equally in early and contemporary music. Several solo and chamber music recordings are available, including Fryderyk Chopin's Op. 10 Etudes. From 2005 to 2025 she taught at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt; since September 2024 she has been a professor at the UdK Berlin.
Konstantin Zvyagin— Piano
Born in 1990 in Novgorod, the home town of Sergei Rachmaninov. Laureate of Russian and international competitions, with an active concert career in Ireland, Poland, Germany, the USA, France, Italy, Spain, Israel and Russia. He graduated from the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow under Prof. Tatiana Zelikman and completed his master's studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance under Prof. Nina Tichman. Romain Garioud— Cello
Prize-winner of numerous renowned competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition Moscow (2002), the Rostropovich Competition Paris (2001) and the Valentino Bucchi Competition Rome (First Prize, 2005). As soloist and professor he accepts invitations to, among others, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Schubertiades Barcelona, the Orangerie de Sceaux, Schloss Elmau, the Bellerive Festival, Mantova, as well as to China and South America. In 2014 he founded the “Dorogi Trio” with Dora Schwarzberg and Giuliano Mazzoccante. Since 2007 he has been a member and founder of the Delian::Quartett (www.delian-quartett.com), which made its debut in 2009 at the Musikverein Vienna and the Berlin Philharmonie. Since 2018 he has taught cello at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt. He plays an exceptional cello by Nicolai Gagliano, 1760.
