Lecture Concert “An Evening with Clara Schumann”

Clara Schumann was arguably the most famous pianist and composer of the 19th century – and so much more than “just” Robert Schumann's wife. In this lecture concert the audience learns informative and amusing details from Clara's life and about the most important people in it: her father's relentless drilling, the hidden love messages she and Robert sent each other through compositions, her close friendship with Johannes Brahms and her legendary concert tours across Europe. All the works of the evening by Clara and Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Fryderyk Chopin are documented as having been performed by Clara herself. Expect a journey back in time to a classical 19th-century soirée.

Elegance, beauty of tone and virtuosity characterise the playing of pianist Lydia Maria Bader. Described by the neue musikzeitung as “one of Germany's leading pianists”, her thematically conceived and charmingly presented concerts are enthusiastically received by audiences and press worldwide. For years she has performed regularly in China, where the press celebrates her as the “German Piano Princess”. In 2016 she was appointed cultural ambassador of Gansu Province. Born in the Chiemgau region of Upper Bavaria, she studied at the music academies of Munich and Graz as well as at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris.
